Save Water

Windsor High School

December 2009 – “Monitoring the school’s water use from home I noticed that our school had a leak of 160 litres every 15 minutes. Making a few quick calculations I worked out that this leak would amount to 440,000 litres of water over the 4 week school break if left unchecked. Investigating the problem I realised that the water use was occurring as a result of just ONE toilet running continuously. If this problem had been left undetected for the duration of the school holiday the cost to the school would have amounted to $1428 (at current water and sewage disposal costs). Many schools have up to 30 toilets and more than 100 additional water outlets (bubblers and taps).

Ongoing SmartMetering and automatic leak detection and notification is the way to ensure that water is managed efficiently to avoid water wastage and unexpected water costs.

Melbourne Market Authority

The installation of the Smart Meters has been a major factor in Melbourne Market Authority’s saving of 70 mega litres per year, or 80% of our water usage. In addition, our bottom line has benefited with a reduction from $13,000 per month in water usage costs to less than $3,000.

Granville South High School

As soon as we commenced monitoring our water usage on-line using the Watersave Smart Meter in 2008, we detected a loss of 5-10 litres of water per minute, which is equal to 44,640 litres wasted every day! The real time data available over the internet showed a major concealed leak so the challenge now was to find the source.  Using their super sensitive leak detection equipment, Watersave found a leak more than a meter underground in the school quadrangle, as well as another major leak in the school car park, one metre down under bitumen.

Thanks to the Watersave initiatives, monitoring and finding these leaks has saved our school thousand of dollars in excess water charges.

Holroyd High School

Holroyd High School is forty years old this year and the buildings have the usual plumbing ‘issues’ you would expect in a school of this age. If it were not for Watersave Australia’s web based Smart Metering Solution, we would never have detected – and found! – the leak that started at the beginning of February. Leaking at 4 litres per minute at first, it was quietly growing in volume, out of sight under the girls amenities block to a gushing 43 litres per minute by the end of the month. Had it gone on undetected, it would have been close to 2 million litres lost for the month!

Using their specialised leak detection instrument, Watersave accurately located it 1.2 metres underneath the building, so the plumber was able to return and rectify the problem. Quite apart from the possible structural damage to the building if left unchecked, the cost of this leak to the school is approx. $6000 per month in excess water. If it had continued undetected, our water bill would have been $72,000 for the year!

North Sydney Demonstration School

Watersave Australia’s ingenious water saving package is currently creating significant savings in water and energy use for North Sydney Demonstration School. In the twelve months since the school installed three of their award winning Watersave Smart Meters, in addition to the Watersave Australia Uridan trough urinals and twenty five dual flush toilets, we have reduced our water bill by a significant $10,000! This is a 68% saving in water or a total of 3.1 million litres.

Apart from the wonderful cost saving, these significant savings in water mean a reduced carbon footprint – a double bonus for our school and something our children can be proud of!

Hornsby Heights Public School

Thanks to the Watersave Smart Metering Solution, our school is now saving at least 2280 litres of water each day and thousands of dollars each year. We had a significant leak that had previously been undetected, quietly leaking away water and money until the Watersave Smart Metering Solution was installed and detected the abnormal water usage.

Using their highly sensitive leak detection equipment, Watersave Australia then located the leak and we had it fixed immediately, savings thousands of dollars each year for our school in excess water charges. Thanks Watersave!
