How does the Uridan urinal work?

The urinal is designed with a built-in water lock or trap.  A biodegradable and 100% fully refined vegetable oil called Urilock floats on top of the urine in the water lock. The Urilock forms a liquid seal, preventing urine smells from being released into the air. As the urine drains through the holes in the stainless steel cover, it passes through the Urilock and into the sewer line. It is a very simple and effective design.

Will the urinal smell if you don't use water?

Providing the urinal is cleaned daily following the Uridan cleaning instructions the urinal will not smell. Unlike flushing urinals where the surface of the urinal is wet, the surface of the Uridan waterless urinal is dry. Water provides a breeding ground for bacteria, waterless urinals actually prevent the growth of bacteria. Therefore no flushing water means no bacteria and a more hygienic operation.

How is the Uridan waterless urinal cleaned?

Uridan waterless urinals are very simple and quick to clean. The Cleaner uses an anti-bacterial spray (Uriclean) for cleaning. A few sprays are directed into the bowl and outer surfaces of the urinal and using a soft brush, the urinal is cleaned around the waste cover and all surfaces. A soft cloth is then used to wipe off the spray. A small amount of water can also be used if required, however it is not necssary.

How often does the Uridan waterless urinal require servicing?

The water trap in the Uridan waterless urinal typically requires servicing between 4 and 6 times per year although actual service frequency depends upon usage.

Is the Uridan waterless urinal approved for use in Australia?

The Uridan waterless urinal is certified under the Watermark scheme administered by Standards Australia Limited and issued under license by SAI Global Certification Services Pty Ltd. The license number is WMKT20031.

Where are Uridan waterless urinals installed?

Urridan waterless urinals are in everyday use in office buildings, portable amenity buildings, sports centres, public amenities, camping grounds, restaurants, airports, hotels, pubs, military establishments, schools and universities across Australia and around the world.

What are the benefits of using a Uridan waterless urinal?

Water Savings

Uridan waterless urinals function without water.  Every commercial or industrial urinal that is replaced by a Uridan waterless urinal saves approximately 65,000 litres* of water per year. This also reduces the burden on the sewage system and the sewage treatment works.

Energy Savings

No electronic automatic flushing systems are required, therefore eliminating energy and carbon emissions when the urinal is used. The large water savings also mean a saving of several hundred kilowatt hours of energy per year, if  water purification and transport and later sewage treatment is considered.

Water pollution and emissions

Uridan waterless urinals do not require strong acid-based toilet cleaners and deodoriser blocks, meaning less sewage and less harmful substances in the water.

Resource consumption

The production, maintenance and later disposal of a technically complex automatic flushing system with water supply pipe are no longer necessary.

Transport demand

The transport of water is minimised. Since little maintenance is required, tradesmen need not travel to the location to carry out repairs.

Product Lifespan

The expected useful life of  Uridan waterless urinals is approximately 10-15 years, which is equal to or longer than that of a conventional urinal. Acutal lifespan depends upon how the fixture is maintained.

Costs

Uridan waterless urinals can pay for themselves within several months or a few years depending on where they are installed. Compared with conventional flushing systems, savings are achieved in operating costs (water, cleaning, and maintenance). Uridan waterless urinals are also significantly cheaper to purchase and install in new buildings.

Health and quality of life

Uridan waterless urinals are more hygienic than conventional flushing systems, and the surface does not attract bacteria and fungi normally attributed to flushing urinals, as they do not need the flushing rim, beneath which bacteria and fungi can multiply.

Safety and operation

Uridan waterless urinals are less prone to overflow and blockage through foreign objects such as cigarette butts and chewing gum. Replacing a conventional urinal with a Uridan waterless urinals is quick and uncomplicated.

Positive image

Uridan waterless urinals are very stylish and enhance the appearance of any bathroom, and are available in a range of colours and designs. Staff and customers are likely to see a business's use to Uridan waterless urinals as a sign of an innovative spirit and a caring of the environment. This can have positive effects on staff motivation and the image of the business in the community.

How does the Watersave Smart Metering System work?

The Watersave SMS reads water usage data from any pulsing water meter and records the data on a secure website in real-time. The user can then access the water usage by entering a username and password into the login screen. Once logged in the user can investigate the data for leaks and unusual usage patterns.

Can the Watersave Smart Metering System notify me of leaks automatically?

The Watersave SMS can automatically alert nominated individuals within an organisation by email and SMS of a water leak immediately it happens! This prevents excess water loss and property damage as well as saving water and money.

Can the Watersave Smart Metering System turn the water off if necessary?

The Watersave SMS can be programmed to automatically turn the water supply off and on remotely. With this functionality a building's water supply can be isolated completely from vandalism and leakage when it is vacant. For example some schools, playing field ammenities, stadiums and child care centres may be suitable for this protection. It is not recommended to use this feature for a commercial office building or any other property where main water is used for air conditioners, or fire fighting for example.

Can DrainFresh be fitted into an existing floor waste?

Yes. Currently the only size that is available is 100mm and the product codes are DFR100 (chromed brass version) and DFR100S (stainless steel version). Other sizes will be available in the coming months.

Does DrainFresh help with foaming suds that sometimes appear in floor wastes when connected to a washing machine?

Yes. DrainFresh will prevent the foam from entering the room above and keep the soapy foam in the sewer .

The rate of evaporation depends upon the relative humidity and temperature in the room where it is installed. However, generally we recommend that the water seal be topped up every 3 months.

Can essential oils be used in the DrainFresh?

Yes. You can add a small amount of perfumed essential oil to the DrainFresh to provide a pleasant smell in the room above. As oils do not evaporate in the same way water does, this would provide a perfect long term seal.
